Owing to capital investments by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, since 2019, 2 facilities of the Government Data Centre covering a total area of approximately 14,000 m2, on a plot of 4 ha, have been built and started operating in Kragujevac in record time. They were built according to the highest technical and global standards and store data of all citizens and businesses, but commercial users as well. It is the first class 4 data centre in Eastern and South-eastern Europe.
This centre has brought Serbia invaluable credibility, which many economically more developed countries would envy, because today global IT giants such as Oracle, IBM and Huawei store their data in Kragujevac. With the signed memorandum with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Serbia has become part of a large worldwide computing grid and only the seventh country in Europe where CERN stores its data.
We have exceeded the existing capacities and demands, and in the coming period we are working on expanding the Government Data Centre in Kragujevac. The plan is to implement the new investment by constructing the Block 2, i.e. new modules with a total capacity of about 56 megawatts, which is 4 times the power of the existing modules. With the construction of new capacities, we also expect new large users from both the state administration and local self-governments, as well as large international commercial users.
