The Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union of the United Nations this year in the first official visit to Serbia

Today he accepted the official invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, presented to him by the Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, Mihailo Jovanovic, at a meeting held within the Forum of the World Summit on the Information Society in Geneva.

“I had the honor to give the Secretary General a letter in which the Prime Minister thanked the International Telecommunication Union for this prestigious nomination and invited Mr. Zhao to visit Serbia”, Jovanovic pointed out.

He added that Serbia made an enormous progress in achieving the global goals of sustainable development of the United Nations, of which the ITU Secretary General Zhao was personally assured at the presentation of the results of the Office for IT and eGovernment.

The Office for IT and eGovernment has been ranked among the 90 best in the sharp competition from a total of 685 registered and 492 nominated projects of government institutions, companies and civil society organizations from around the world. It was nominated in the category of creating good environment for the development of the information society, out of a million votes received online.

Representatives of the Office for IT and eGovernment will attend a winners’ announcement ceremony at the WSIS Forum, which will be held in Geneva on March 20 at 12 pm local time. The expert jury will then announce winners who have, in an innovative way, using new technologies, improved their environment and made significant progress towards achieving the global goals of the United Nations in the sphere of the information society.
