After 48 hours of continuous work of the developer teams that applied for the first #CodeGovernment State Hackathon, the expert jury in Belgrade and Nis heard their suggestions for improving the experience of the National eGovernment Portal users and reached the decision on the winning teams. In Belgrade, two awards were given to the Varhak and Voidvoide teams, whereas in Nis, the winner was the BitPoBit team. Winners were awarded with shopping vouchers in the value of $ 2,500 each, to be spent in tech stores.

The winning team of Varhak from Belgrade proposed a more modern and simpler design of the Portal with a clearer front page and simplified movement on the website. Ivan Branisavljevic from this team said: “Our solution recognizes the needs of users and offers them services that they will logically actually need.”
The second team that was awarded in Belgrade, the Voidvoide team from Novi Sad, has developed a prototype that, in addition to the refreshed home page design, proposes the use of live chat services for the purposes of simplified communication between the users and the Portal. The BitPoBit team from Nis, which brought together two students from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Nis and one from Bristol University, came up with a proposal that focuses on quickly finding the desired services that the eGovernment Portal offers, accompanied by a clean design.
“This competition of developers and designers was intended for redesigning and seeking a better and more functional technological solution that should improve the experience of the National Portal eGovernment users. The competition is also a continuation of the cooperation that the state has with the IT community and which it wants to raise to a higher level. I thank all the teams on their solution proposals and congratulate the winners on their awards.”, said Mihailo Jovanovic, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment.
He added that, for the Office, Hackathon represents the beginning of the transformation process and that the most important role is played exactly by the IT community that has the insight into the needs of the market we are following.
Member of the jury in front of the Digital Serbia Initiative was Veronika Tasic Vusurovic. After the awards ceremony, Mrs. Tasic Vusurovic stated: “It is a great pleasure to see the level of enthusiasm and talent shown by the competing teams during these two very intense days. I am particularly pleased to see that the teams were especially motivated by the fact that their ideas will help each of us to communicate with the state in an easier and faster way in the future.”
#CodeGovernment Hackathon was organized by the Office for IT and eGovernment in cooperation with the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and the Digital Serbia Initiative. A total of 14 teams took part, nine of which in Belgrade and five in Nis.
