Simplified procedure for the enrollment in the first grade of elementary schools

The documents will be obtained thanks to the implementation of the new software that was created as a result of the team work of the Government of Serbia, i.e. the joint project of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government, the Ministry of Interior and the Office for Information Technologies and eGovernment.

The parent or other legal representative of the child will continue to be able to deliver the aforementioned documents in paper form, if they wish to do so. What will remain as an obligation is to provide a medical certificate and a certificate of attendance of preparatory preschool program.

"When we were working on these changes, we were thinking about how to make life easier for the parents. How to save their money and time, on one hand, and maximally simplify the enrollment of future first-graders on the other. Why would citizens be the ones to collect documents from one state body and then deliver them to a school or another state body? For those who do not fully understand what eGovernment means, it implies that all parts of the state communicate with one another, share data, which should ultimately lead to less bureaucracy and simplified procedures for our citizens. Our goal is to change the daily life of citizens for the better and the Serbian government will continue to insist on such changes", said Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić.

The software will enable the birth certificate and proof of residence to be obtained electronically. In practice, by connecting the "eDnevnik" with the school registers and their places of residence, schools themselves will obtain the data contained in these documents.

It is planned for the software to be put into operation in early March this year, and that by June this year, following the same system, the same benefit be introduced for enrollment of students in secondary schools.
